Xtra Time Web Desk: Chennai Super Kings Captain MS Dhoni was dragged into a controversy following an incident involving an umpiring decision during the IPL 2020 match between CSK and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The incident happened during the third ball of the penultimate over bowled by Shardul Thakur. SRH needed 27 to win from 12 balls with Rashid Khan on crease. The Afghanistan leg spinner took two runs off the first ball bowled by Shardul. The next ball was called a wide by umpire Paul Reiffel. The third delivery also looked similar to the one previously bowled, wide outside the line of off stump. Rashid tried his best to reach without succeeding.

It almost had on field umpire Paul Reiffel to signal for a wide, but he checked suddenly only after seeing an angry looking CSK Captain. Eventually, the Australian umpire changed his mind, signaling it a fair delivery.

The decision did not go down well with SRH Captain David Warner, who looked displeased at the call. He was seen fuming in the dugout at the ball not being called a wide. In the end, Sunrisers Hyderabad fell short of the target by 20 runs and Chennai Super Kings picked up their third win of the season.

It is to be noted that this is not the first time that Dhoni has shown his displeasure at an umpire’s call. In a match against Rajasthan Royals last year, Dhoni lost his cool at umpire Ulhas Gandhe, storming on to the pitch and getting into a heated argument with the on-field umpires. During the last over of CSK’s chase, Gandhe had tried to rule a waist-high full toss as no ball by Ben Stokes, but reversed his decision when square-leg umpire Bruce Oxenford did not signal for it.
