mohammad-azharuddin Internet Desk: In the year 2000 former Indian cricketer Manoj Prabhakar blamed that a fellow Indian player offered him 25 lakhs rupees for throwing the match against arch rivals Pakistan in Sri Lanka in 1994. Prabhakar told that it was India’s 1883 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev who asked him to under-perform. After that incident CBI raided at the houses of top Indian cricketers and in November 2000 former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin was found guilty. On the other hand  Ajay Jadeja, Prabhakar, Ajay Sharma and team’s physio of that time Ali Irani were found guilty as had connections with the bookies. A month later, Azharuddin and Sharma faced life ban. Azhar had wrote a letter to the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) to clear his outstanding dues, monthly pension and one-time benefit given to the former cricketrs, as the Andhra Pradesh High Court had said that the ban by BCCI was “illegal” and “unsustainable”. Azharuddin is yet to receive his dues since 17 years. Earlier on August 7, the CoA had discussed regarding this issue. And now the committee has asked the board to take a decision on clearing the dues of the former skipper. Sharma, Prabhakar and Jadeja who have been serving similar bans would also hope to receive their pending dues. One of the top BCCI official was quoted saying, “If Azhar’s plea is accepted, then indirectly, the board will have to give pending dues to the other three cricketers too who were convicted by the BCCI. The members will have to take a call when the board’s AGM takes place,” as mentioned on Indian Express. Azhar further stated that, he thinks BCCI would take the correct decision on the cricketers now attending BCCI events too.“My expectations are positive; I never think negative. The letter that I sent to the Indian cricket board was put on the agenda of the meeting so that means they are serious about it. I am hoping this case is resolved at the earliest and we move ahead,” said a hopeful Azhar.
