Internet Desk : Former India captain Sourav Ganguly feel the 15 member squad for the ICC World Twenty20 is the best possible squad at the present moment . Sourav also feel the team has a good mix of experience and youth . He was happy with the inclusion of seniors like Yuvraj , Harbhajan and Nehera . Speaking on Md Shami’s inclusion , he believes the selection was more of a necessity, based on Umesh Yadav’s current form.

“The selection of Shami is worth the risk, considering the pace he brings to the table. It is not a surprise, but a necessity for India. If he doesn’t get fit, the selectors can always find a replacement. But, they have selected him hoping he reaches optimum fitness, till the tournament begins. Umesh’s form also was taken into consideration.”

Shami had to come back due to a hamstring injury  before the start of the one day series in Australia . The fast bowler from Bengal last played for India during the ODI World Cup semi-final last year.

The bowling line-up remains unchanged with breakthrough pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya retaining their spots. Ganguly also felt that Manish Pandey’s exclusion doesn’t affect his overall career trajectory.

He added, “In the overall scheme of things, Pandey has a bright future within the national team. This shouldn’t be majorly affecting him as these are not the only tournaments he will play. Rahane’s service to the squad makes him deserve a spot in the team. It was also great to see selectors have faith in Ashish Nehra, as I think he still has a lot to offer to the India team.”

The other notable inclusion was that of Pawan Negi, who replaces Axar Patel in the team. Speaking about India’s chances, “At home India will be a tough to beat, but there are a lot of other good teams in the mix, including the likes of New Zealand.”

Ganguly had a meeting with the State secretary today at Nabanna , to discuss the security arrangements for the forthcoming ICC World T20 . Pakistan will have their base camp  in Kolkata during the tournament . The Pakistani players  will be arriving in Kolkata on 10th March and stay here till16th March . During their stay in Kolkata , the Pakistan team will play two warm up matches  at Eden Gardens . The Pak side will play their second warm up match against Sri Lanka on 14th March . The president of  CAB  had an elaborate discussion with the State Secretary Basudeb Banerjee at Nabanna .
