Xtra Time Web Desk: There has been speculations that Team India star batter Virat Kohli may take a month-long break from cricket before he returns to training ahead of Asia Cup 2022. The Indian team is scheduled to travel to Zimbabwe after a gap of six years, where they will play three ODIs. It is learned the national selectors are keen that Virat, who is searching for form, get back to action before the Asia Cup by competing in the three ODI matches in Zimbabwe to be played between August 18-22.
Other than Kohli, most of India’s main players will be giving the Zimbabwe series a miss. It is still not clear whether KL Rahul will be part of the ODI squad to Zimbabwe. If he is selected, he will lead the side for Zimbabwe series else the responsibility will fall on Shikhar Dhawan, who is captaining India in the West Indies ODIs starting Friday.
Kohli was granted rest on his request from the 5 T20Is to be played in the West Indies where the selectors have picked a full-strength team. The former India skipper has struggled to get going in the recently concluded series against England. He managed to score only 31 runs in both innings of Birmingham Test while in the three match T20I series he scored only12 runs. In the ODI matches he had scores of 16 and 17 respectively.
