Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

Xtra Time Web Desk: All eyes will be on Ajit Agarkar led selection committee whether they will pick both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Indian T20I squad for the three match T20I series against Afghanistan starting from January 11. The selection committee are likely to meet on Sunday to pick the team for Afghanistan series. The selectors are in a dilemma whether to pick one or both for the Afghanistan series

Chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar travelled to Cape Town during the recently concluded second test match against South Africa to have a detailed discussions with both the senior cricketers. Both Rohit and Virat expressed their availability in T20 format. The two senior cricketers last played a T20I against England at Adelaide Oval in the semi-final ofT20 World Cup 2022. It is learnt a final call will be taken when all the selectors are back from South Africa.

The potential inclusion of both Rohit and Kohli raises concerns about team balance, potentially sidelining players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan. The wicketkeeper-batter from Jharkhand adds flexibility to the side as well as he is a left hander. But the current scenario can see him missing out.

To accommodate both star players, the think tank may consider Jitesh Sharma as the keeper alongside Rinku Singh. However, this choice limits the team to only five bowlers, with the return of Hardik Pandya from injury necessitating him to bowl four overs in each game.
