Will Dhoni retire after World Cup? This is what his close friend is saying

Kolkata: There was a speculation on MS Dhoni’s retirement on Wednesday morning as media reports suggested that the former India captain will announce his retirement after India’s last match in the ICC World Cup 2019. Though later a reliable source confirmed that the news is nothing but “mere speculation” and there is no official confirmation on Dhoni’s retirement. Beside that there is no pressure on Dhoni from the team management as the team’s head coach Ravi Shastri & skipper Virat Kohli always backed the legendary wicket-keeper batsman.

But anyway he is 37 years old now & with Dhoni you never know what he will decide. In his prolonged career he got hurt on his thumbs during the matches while keeping. A picture has gone viral which shows he is sucking his thumb after it was bleeding during the match against Englaand. His fingers are not in good shape at all.

MS Dhoni’s close friend Mihir Diwakar feels that Dhoni will retire after the World Cup as arguably India best captain has no motivation after that,” If he retires after winning the World Cup that would be good, but if you ask me whether he is determined to retire? I would say yes. He is that kind of a man who won’t give you any clue about what he will do tomorrow. But he has given hint to us that this World Cup will be his last. The next World Cup will be held in India on 2023 and I think he doesn’t have any motivation for that long,” said Diwakar while talking to www.xratime.in

On being asked about MS Dhoni’s prolonged finger injury, Diwakar said,” He had a back problem from the start of his career more than this thumb injury and you see a keeper has to do his keeping for 50 overs and beside that he has to bat as well. That’s why it’s quite evident that a keeper would have a thumb injury. But as we know Dhoni has a big heart as a cricketer and he doesn’t care about these things much. A cricketer who has scored more than 10,000 ODI runs batting with lower order batsmen & tail enders has something in him.”

Diwakar knows Dhoni from his childhood and he is confident that the former India skipper is not that kind of a cricketer who would forcefully hold his place in the team.” In Indian cricket we have that kind of cricketers who knows what is the age to start playing cricket but don’t know when they should stop. Dhoni is not like them, when he retired from Test cricket nobody knew anything regarding that that a day before it. The same thing will happen again, if he decides to leave he will leave,” concluded Diwakar.
