Why did Virat Kohli get an unexpected invitation from Kashmir Premier League President Arif Ali?

Xtra Time Web Desk: Why did Virat Kohli get an unexpected invitation from Kashmir Premier League organisers? Who is Arif Ali and what was his motive? Recently, the Kashmir Premier League’s (KPL) President Arif Malik created a stir when he announced that he will be sending a formal invite to former India captain Virat Kohli to participate in the second edition of the league, in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), or at least grace his presence as a guest.

The comment from Arif Ali led to a widespread reaction from all quarters. Former Pakistani wicketkeeper Rashid Latif, who is also the Director of Cricket Operations of KPL clarified

that the league’s President has decided not only to call Kohli but also many other marquee players from different countries. However, the decision to invite Kohli was solely Malik’s, as per Latif’s claims.

Former India captain Virat Kohli has always been passionate and share a pride representing the Indian cricket team. For Virat Kohli the tri-colour is very close to his heart.

How on earth can Arif Ali invite the star Indian batter for a petty tournament like KPL. The invitation is just a gimmick to get the attention of media from across the border. Mr Ali was trying to get cheap popularity by inviting Kohli for an unorganized and unrecognized cricket tournament in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Even the state association run T20 leagues in India is far better organized and popular than KPL. So, Mr Ali should stop day dreaming and re-think twice before making such an invitation to a player of the stature of Virat Kohli.

Earlier, Malik had said in a video shared on social media platform Twitter, “(Md) Rizwan gave a very positive message that cricket should be beyond anything else. So we are sending a letter to Virat Kohli, inviting him to play in the league or at least come and watch one match.”
