Why did BCCI President Sourav Ganguly make a sudden visit to Eden Gardens ahead of IPL Qualifiers?

Xtra Time Web Desk: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Monday visited the Eden Gardens ahead of the IPL 2022 Qualifier 1 between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals. The board president was accompanied by BCCI COO Hemang Amin. Ganguly inspected the Eden Gardens wicket for a long time and also had a discussion with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) curator Sujan Mukherjee. He also had a look around the boxes and the arrangements being made at the Eden Gardens for the Qualifiers.

It will be after two years that Indian Premier League matches will be organized at the iconic venue. On being asked about the huge demand for tickets, the board president said its nothing new as every time a match is held at Eden Gardens, there is demand for tickets.

The BCCI President seemed very happy with the way the tournament was staged smoothly in the midst of Covid-19. According to Ganguly, “IPL is a great tournament”.

The TV viewership in the ongoing IPL season has dropped considerably. But the BCCI President is not too bothered. Sourav reckons the PlayOff matches will make up for the dip in viewership as both venues – Eden Gardens and Narendra Modi stadium will see full houses for the Qualifiers.

Finally, Ganguly was also asked about the selections of Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh in the Indian T20 squad for the upcoming series against South Africa. Sourav signed off by saying it is the job of the selectors who they feel have performed.
