Xtra Time Web Desk: Bihar’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi grabbed headlines on Friday for being the fourth all time youngest cricketer (12 years and 284 days) to make first class debut. The youngster made his debut for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy fixture against Mumbai.

Vaibhav, a promising cricketer has been dragged into a serious allegations of age fraud after his claims in an interview to a You Tube channel. In the video, Vaibhav reportedly mentioned turning 14 in September 2023. However, his official date of birth certificate, issued by the Registrar (Birth and Death) of Gram Panchayat, Tajpur in Samastipur District of Bihar in 2019, states his birth on March 27, 2011, making him 12 years old.

This discrepancy is particularly significant as Vaibhav has already represented India's U-19 B team in a quadrangular series involving England and Bangladesh in November 2023. The fact that his documents were verified by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) adds weight to the age fraud claims. The clash between the statement in the video and the official documents raises questions about the accuracy of his age and could have repercussions for his cricketing career.

The seriousness of the situation is heightened by Vaibhav's participation in international competitions and the potential impact on the integrity of youth cricket. The BCCI, responsible for overseeing such matters, may need to conduct a thorough investigation to address the allegations and maintain the credibility of age verification processes in the sport.
