Xtra Time Web Desk: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly on Saturday attended the Durga Maha Ashtami celebrations at his local club Behala Players Corner. He was accompanied by his elder brother Snehasish. Both the brothers gave the anjali on the occasion of Maha Ashtami, a ritual they have been following since their childhood.

Sourav and his brother Snehasish were both seen in a Kurta Pajama along with a mask. As it appeared not even the global pandemic could dampen the spirit of Sourav as he joined the local residents in attending the Puja mandap.

He also posted a video of evening arati on his instagram handle. He wrote, “Evening aroti on saptami at home …no Covid can beat it…#MaDurga “

This year the Durga Puja festival celebrations have been scaled back massively, with some basic safety measures being taken by some. For his own safety, Ganguly can be seen wearing a mask in his picture.

This year Maha Ashtami and Maha Navami fall on the same day i.e. Saturday. On Durga Ashtami or Maha Ashtami, Goddess Maha Gauri is worshipped. It is considered to be the most auspicious day in the ten-day Navratri and Durga Puja.
