Australia offered double declaration, West Indies refused

Sydney : Australia’s skipper Steve Smith said the West Indies had declined a creative plan to revive the rain-hit third Test after it ended in a draw today.

Smith said he approached his opposite number Jason Holder with an offer to declare at 0-0 and then allow the tourists to build a 370-run lead with 70 overs to play. But the deal was rejected by Holder thereby arousing any hopes of a result .

David Warner scored his 16th hundred in the rain affected  last day of the Sydney test as Australia  completed a 2-0 sweep over West Indies to retain the Frank Worrell Trophy.

West Indies were bowled out for 330. Resuming at 248/7 West Indies started the day slow and steady. Dinesh Ramdin(61) was the first to depart as he was caught at first slip by Steven Smith . Nathan Lyon soon removed Kemar Roach. Jomel Warrican(21) and Jerome Taylor(13) fought a lone battle before O’Keefe got rid of Taylor as Lyon caught him at the backward point.

Warner started his innings in a blistering style as he hit the first two ball of the Australian innings to the fence. The dashing left hander took 16 runs from a Jomel Warrican over that included three mammoth sixes.He raised his half century in just 42 balls. He and his partner Joe Burns added 100 runs with Warner contributing 74 runs . Burns got out to Warrican as he tried t hit him over the mid on.

Warner resumed the final session with 90 runs in his kitty. He broke Mathew Hayden’s record for scoring the fastest hundred . Hayden took 84 balls to reach his hundred against Zimbabwe in 2004 . David Warner has now the record of scoring the quickest century ever scored at the SCG.

Warner was named the Man of The Match while Adam Voges was named the Player of the series. He was awarded the Richi Benaud Medal .Warner was not out for 122 when the match was called off.
