Internet Desk: Adam Gilchrist the former left handed Australian wicket-keeper- batsman has reportedly backed Indian skipper Virat Kohli saying that his change has been highly recommendable over the past three years and he should not be judged on the poor performance of a single match after Indian were inflicted a thumping defeat by their arch-rivals India in the ICC Champions trophy final.

Australia’s education ambassador, Gilchrist is in New Delhi to attend a friendly cricket match.

Gilchrist said that the topic about who should lead India had ended a long ago when he was enquired if results had been different if former skipper MS Dhoni was still the captain.

Kohli has been splendid throughout the tournament and is the right man to lead although Dhoni has been an inspirational leader.

“MS Dhoni was a wonderful captain. He is an inspirational leader. But I think Virat’s transition has been excellent. You should not judge him on one game. His tournament was brilliant,” Gilchrist told the reporters.

“He had some really difficult times in England previously. So he had proved that he can play over there. He strikes me as an amazing young man who loves and cherishes and relishes all the responsibilities. So I think he is right man to be leading the team,” he added.

The loss should be a learning lesson for the Men in Blue and as a result should prepare for the next match with much improved vigour.

Pakistan outclassed India in the finals in all departments and handed them a 180 run defeat at the Kennington Oval.

India ended their innings in 33.3 overs when they were bundled for 158 after they were set to chase 339 runs.

Gilchrist expressed his disbelief on the outcome of the match claiming that Pakistan are unpredictable and have proved that in the finals.

“It was a big surprise to see the result, but Pakistan is unpredictable. India had a fantastic tournament. But it was quite disappointing not to win the most important game of the tournament, in the finals. That is the limited-overs cricket. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day. And this tournament proved the same,” he said.

India will next travel to West Indies where they are scheduled to play 5 ODI matches and 1 T20 game.
