Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India batting coach Vikram Rathour, believes both Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have the potential to have a long-lasting career in all three formats. Rathour is very impressed with the temperament of both batters and the ability to pace their innings according to situations across formats.

Although Shubman has scored two hundreds so far in his career and only averages a touch under 32, Rathour feels that he will be the future of the Indian batting as he is able to blend potential with hardwork and temperament, which is the hallmark of a great player.

"He has a lot of potential, and he has reached that potential as well in other formats. He has also made runs in Test cricket. Sometimes it might take a bit of time in a particular format, and he is taking that time, but he has that time. The potential that he has, I have no doubt that he is the future of Indian team in batting. He will play for the Indian team for a long time, in all three formats," said Rathour during an interaction with the media in Dominica.

The 23-year-old had a discussion with the team management, asking them to play him at No.3 - a position that was mastered by Cheteshwar Pujara and Rahul Dravid before that. While both Dravid and Pujara were known for their ability to wear the bowlers down with their resolute batting, Rathour said Gill is someone who can play the dual role of defence and attack, as per the demands of the team.

Rathour was also impressed with the way Jaiswal scored his maiden test ton on debut. Yashasvi scored a brilliant 171 runs and the hallmark of his knock was his stroke-play and strike-rate. The Indian batting coach was particularly impressed with the way he grafted his innings on Day 2 of the first test when he scored 20 runs off 90 balls.

According to Rathour, "On the second day he scored some 20 runs off 90 balls before Lunch. I think that for me was the highlight of the innings. Somebody who is able to do that, who can play against his character, his normal game, get through that phase and then score big runs, it was phenomenal to watch. Absolutely no doubt that he has great potential and great future with the Indian team in all three formats."
