Vijay Hazare Trophy : Parthiv, Bumrah help Gujarat lift maiden title

Parthiv-PatelBengaluru , December 28 : Parthiv Patel played a captains knock ,scoring a brilliant century while seamer Jasprit Bumrah claimed an impressive five-for as Gujarat outclassed Delhi by 139 runs in the final match to lift it’s maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Chinnaswamy stadium here on Monday.

Parthiv scored a 119-ball 105 to help Gujarat post 273 all out in 50 overs. Batsman Rujul Bhatt gave good company to his skipper (Parthiv) with a much needed 60.

In reply, Delhi were bowled out for 134 in 32.3 overs . Seamer Bumrah impressed with 5-28 alongside R.P. Singh’s 4-42 for Gujarat. Put into bat by Gautam Gambhir, Gujarat’s progress was halted by two quick blows from pacer Navdeep Saini (2/46) and Ishant Sharma (1/19).

However, Bhatt who scored a well-timed half century brought up a 149-run partnership with his wicket-keeper skipper for the third wicket to put his team in good position.

In the 37th over, Nitish Rana got the breakthrough for Delhi as he dismissed Bhatt.

Gujarat received a double blow when skipper Parthiv was dismissed in the very next over as he was bowled by left-arm spinner Pawan Negi. The score was 193/4 then.

Incoming batsmen Chirag Gandhi (44 not out off 39 balls) and Rush Kalaria (21 off 20 balls) took the charge from there on to take his team past the 250-run mark and post a challenging total.

In reply, Delhi got off to a worst possible start as they lost opener Rishabh Pant in the very first ball of their innings. From there on, wickets fell at regular intervals as experienced Gambhir (9) and Shikhar Dhawan (5) too failed to get runs under their belt.  At one point Delhi were struggling at 31-4 in the 11th over.

Unmukt Chand (33) with six boundaries in his short innings tried to take on the bowlers but his stay in the crease ended in the 17th over as he was bowled by seamer Jasprit Bumrah to leave Delhi crawling at 59-5.

Next up, it was a daunting task ahead for Delhi’s lower order to score as they surrendered to some quality bowling by Gujarat bowlers. Late fireworks with the bat by Negi (57 off 47) was not enough for them to cross the line.
