US Open: Dominic Thiem sets up title clash with Alexander Zverev

XtraTime Web Desk: Second seed Dominic Thiem overcame an ankle injury, a set point in the second and third sets to beat Daniil Medvedev to book a place in the final of the US Open this year. The Austrian will meet Alexander Zverev in his maiden Grand Slam final on Sunday.

Thiem got the better of Medvedev as he defeated him in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(7) and 7-6(5). Thiem, who was two sets up, rallied on to push the match into its second tie-breaker and secured the win. German fifth seed Alexander Zverev overcame two sets down 3-6,2-6,6-3,6-4 and 6-3 to beat Spanisard Pablo Carreno Busta in the other semi final on Friday. Zverev, with his back against the wall, raised his game just in time to deny the 20th seed an upset win.

German Zverev will be eyeing a Grand Slam victory since Boris Becker won the Australian Open in 1996. Whoever wins the Championship will be the first to do so.
