Xtra Time Web Desk: Virat Kohli on Saturday stepped down as the Test captain of the Indian cricket team after the series defeat against South Africa. Kohli took to Twitter to make the mega announcement as the former skipper thanked BCCI, former head coach Ravi Shastri and MS Dhoni in his statement on social media.

And after the 33 year old's decision to quit Test Captaincy, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly praised Kohli for being a great leader and lauded him for his immense efforts he put in his captaincy.

Congratulating Virat, the 'Prince of Calcutta' tweeted, “Under Virats leadership Indian cricket has made rapid strides in all formats of the game. His decision is a personal one and BCCI respects it immensely. He will be an important member to take this team to newer heights in the future. A great player. Well done.”

Virat Kohli has been the most successful Indian Test skipper, with 40 win in 68 test matches apart from being the first Indian and Asian captain to win a Test Series on Australian soil.
