Barasat: The stage was set, the supporters came in numbers despite heavy downpour but East Bengal U16 brigade fails to take revenge of the earlier defeat against arch rivals Mohun Bagan in the U16 Youth League game of the Kolkata Zone at the Barasat Stadium today. The evenly contested game ended goal-less between the two heavy-weights. It was virtually a “home” game for the Red & Gold brigade and the East Bengal ULTRAS came in numbers despite the incessant rain to encourage the players. Unfortunately, the fans had to leave the stadium with disappointment.

In the first leg between the two sides, Deep Saha and Sougata Hansda led the Mariners to an emphatic 2-0 victory at their own ground. The Mariners though played a solid game which helped them to go on top of the points table with 13 points off 5 matches. Another draw kept East Bengal with 8 points from 5 games. All the teams will play 10 matches each in the Kolkata zone.

After the game, Green & Maroon Coach Nasir Ali said,”Still a long way to go. We have our target to reach 25 points at least if not more.” On the flip side, Red & Gold gaffer Asrujit Chatterjee said,”It is true that we are not in a comfortable position. But we are not too much behind either. Today we had an improved performance and I believe that victories in the next few matches will put us into a good position.”
