Tri-Series in England: Indian women team likely to pull out due to COVID-19

XtraTime Web Desk: The forthcoming Indian women’s cricket tour to England in September to take part in a Tri series looks in serious doubts. With the players still not being able to train outdoors, due to the rising coronavirus cases in the country, it is very likely the board may call off the tour. It is learnt that the BCCI has not even initiated the process to take government permissions for the tour. Apart from Indian women’s team, South Africa and hosts England was supposed to feature in the Tri Series.
The host England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is scheduled to host the Tri series from 2nd week of September. It was planned that the Indian women team will fly for England in the middle of August and will complete mandatory quarantine before taking part in the series. All those plans are set to be shelved now.

With BCCI in double minds whether or not to send its team, their counterpart ECB will have to look for a replacement. The England women’s team has already begun preparation for the Tri Series. International cricket is already back in UK with the ongoing test series between England and West Indies. Pakistan men’s team is also in England to take part in a series following the West Indies series.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is yet to appoint new selection committee for the Indian women cricket. All the five selectors including chairman Hemlata Kala has completed their tenure. The selection committee last met for the T20 World Cup selection in January.
