Tamim, Shakib and bowlers lead Bangladesh fightback

Internet Desk: The bowlers gave host Bangladesh their much needed momentum back at the end of Day 1 after half centuries from Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan helped the hosts to post a respective total in their first innings against Australia.

Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first in the first Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

After a disastrous start in the morning, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan have repaired the early damage. Both of them are playing their 50th Test and after losing 3 wickets at 10 runs, they have built up a partnership of 155 runs. Finally Tamim departed against run of the play scoring 71 runs.  Shakib also could not get hold for much longer and was dismissed for 84 runs by Nathan Lyon.

After Tea, Ashton Agar trapped Mushfiqur LBW on 18. Nasir Hossain and Mehidy Hasan added 42 runs in the 7th wicket before Lyon got rid of Mehidy on 18. Soon Nasir followed him and was gone after scoring 23.

Next two batsmen Taijul Islam and Shafiul Islam lost their wicket in quick succession as Bangladesh were all out for 260. Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon all got 3 wickets.

Bangladesh lost Soumya Sarkar early in the morning when the opener edged Pat Cummins to gully. Imrul Kayes and Sabbir Rahman then became second and third victim of Cummins, both of them were dismissed without scoring any runs. Then Shakib and Tamim rescued Bangladesh and did not let to happen any damage till lunch.

In reply Australia finished the day on 18/3 in 9 overs. Mehidy gave the first breakthrough in the 6th over by dismissing Warner on 9. Usman Khawaja was run out on 1. Before end of the day’s play, Shakib grabbed the wicket of Lyon. Matt Renshaw and Steve Smith remained not out.
