Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy 2022: Prithvi Shaw makes a strong statement; scores 46 ball hundred against Assam

Xtra Time Web Desk: Mumbai’s Prithvi Shaw is making his bat do the talking as he smashed a 46-ball century against Assam in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match on Friday. Shaw has responded to the repeated snub in the national team by the selectors. He was in some destructive mood as he smashed 13 fours and 9 sixes. The Delhi Capitals’ batter ended up scoring 134 from 61 balls.

Shaw has repeatedly been shown the door by selectors in the white-ball formats. Either the right-hand batter is ignored due to fitness issues, or due to his disciplinary issues. Prithvi, it seems have decided to make his bat do the talking.

Shaw has last played for India in white ball format in 2021. Since then, he has played IPL in 2022 and scored 283 in 11 games at a strike rate of 153.

The right-hand batter also was the top run-scorer in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 as he scored over 900 plus runs.

The biggest criticism labelled against Prithvi is he is over weight and does not have the fitness standards required to be in the national team. The selectors have made their views clear to Prithvi. He failed in the YO-Yo Test, three weeks before the start of IPL.

In terms of batting, Shaw has hardly put a foot wrong as he has scored 2,410 runs in 46 List A matches at a strike rate of 125.19.

If Prithvi can work on his fitness, it will not be too far away before he makes a comeback into the white ball team.
