Internet Desk: Barcelona strongly held the position at the top of the La Liga table with a stunning 6-1 victory over Celta Vigo. Luiz Suarez scored a hattrick while Messi and Neymar scored a goal each and Rakitic too on target.

Having seen Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid win earlier in the weekend, Barca could ill-afford a slip-up against a Celta side who won the reverse fixture 4-1 at Balaidos in September.

And Messi – returning to action after medical tests on a kidney problem this week – was in inspired form as he got the hosts off the mark with a beautifully measured free-kick before John Guidetti levelled from the spot.

Messi, Suarez and Neymar combined wonderfully in the attacking line. Messi showed some huge character for his Uruguyan counterpart in the 81st minute when Barca got a penalty but Messi passed on the ball to Suarez to score his hattrick. Messi opened the scoring in the 28th minute of the match scoring his 299th La Liga goal.

However, he elected to lay the ball off for Suarez’s hat-trick, with Ivan Rakitic’s clever lob and Neymar’s calm finish capping a stunning period of attacking football from Luis Enrique’s men, who moved clear at the top in style.

Barcelona are leading the points table with 57 points from 23 games way ahead from second placed Atletico Madrid and third placed Real Madrid who are 54 points and 53 points respectively playing an extra game from Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid achieved a comprehensive 4-2 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the Santiago Bernabeu with a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos were too on target. Atletico Madrid were also emerged victorious with a solitary goal from Fernando Torres.
