Steve Smith fails yet again with the bat in County Championships, takes a screamer

Xtra Time Web Desk: Australian batter Steve Smith continued to struggle in County Championships. Smith fell for just three against Leicestershire on Friday after making 30 on debut at Worcester last week. The 33-year-old is finding runs hard to come by. He was trapped LBW for three in the first innings after having to wait for a long time watching a big partnership between Indian red-ball star Cheteshwar Pujara and England’s Tom Alsop.

The Australian star took a screamer standing in the second slips. He caught Leicestershire’s Rehan Ahmed diving full length to his right off the bowling of Henry Crocombe.

Smith has joined the English County side Sussex which is being led by India’s batting mainstay Chesteshwar Pujara. While Pujara has been in stupendous form, notching up three hundreds, Smith has failed to fire with the bat. Smith’s form will be a concern for the Australian team management ahead of the much-anticipated World Test Championships final to be played at the Oval from June 7-11.

Smith will soon join his Australian teammates when they arrive in England for the long summer.
