XtraTime Web Desk: South African cricket is in huge crisis following the decision by South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) to suspend Cricket South Africa. The CAS has been suspended for a period of one month during which SASCOC will launch an independent investigation into the conduct of CSA. SASCOC acting chief executive Ravi Govender on Thursday said the radical step is “to remove the negativity and governance issues around CSA, so that in future they can be more effective and efficient in their mandate”.

The decision to suspend the cricket board will put a question mark on the future of cricket in the rainbow nation as the International Cricket Council (ICC) guidelines prevents direct government interference in the running of any nation’s cricket board.

Letters from the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) to CSA says “the CSA board and those senior executives who serve ex-officio on the board (the company secretary, the acting CEO, the CFO and the COO) are directed to step aside from the administration of CSA on full pay” pending the outcome of a month-long investigation by a task team.

SASCOC said that “many instances of maladministration and malpractice that have occurred since December 2019 has put the game to disrepute.
