Sourav Ganguly’s iconic celebration at the Lord’s balcony to come alive again – find out how

XtraTime Web Desk: The iconic moment when Sourav Ganguly celebrated India’s triumph over England in the 2002 NatWest Series final by taking off his shirt and waving it from the Lord’s balcony easily became one of the greatest frames in the folklore of Indian cricket. Now it’s the time for the heroic moment to bring alive on celluloid in Abhinay Deo’s sports drama Doosra.

The filmmaker took to Twitter to unveil the first poster of his upcoming film and wrote, “A film that is very special to me. Doosra – the story of India’s iconic 2002 victory as seen through the eyes of a young girl.”

Dias has been credited with writing the story and screenplay of Doosra, which stars Plabita Borthakur, Ankur Vikal, Krishna Gokani and Samidha Guru. Chicago-based Masha and Rohan Sajdeh are the executive producers.
The NatWest success in 2002 has gone down in history as one of India’s greatest wins in One-Day International cricket. England set an impressive target of 326 for India, and things looked gloomy for our team when we lost crucial wickets and the score slipped to 146/5.

However, India managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, thanks to a solid knock from newbies Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif.
Director Abhinay Deo told an entertainment portal, “Sourav Ganguly marked the end of an era, the end of submission. His one move at the NatWest final was so powerful and brought such a huge paradigm shift in our thinking. This film captures this through the life of a girl living in a patriarchal family suppressed by society and societal obligations. The poster of the film is only the first look. There are several more layers that audiences will understand once they watch the trailer.”
