Sourav Ganguly attends his first ICC meeting from his residence

Debasis Sen: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly recently attended his first ever ICC board meeting over a video conference call from his Behala residence. The meeting was to discuss the current situation arising due to the coronavirus pandemic due to which the world cricket governing body was forced to cancel/postpone any ICC events.

It was the first ever ICC meeting that Ganguly attended on behalf of the Indian Board in his capacity as the BCCI supremo. In attending the board meeting of the governing body of world cricket, the former cricketer turned administrator also makes himself eligible for future ICC top posts. Presently for anyone to hold ICC’s top posts like the President or Chairman, he needs to attend at least one board meeting on behalf of the respective member cricket board.

Shahshank Manohar who is currently the chairman of the International Cricket Council will have his term completed in June. It is too early to say whether Sourav will replace Manohar in the ICC or not as it looks very unlikely. Normally it will be the turn of someone from other member cricket boards.

According to insiders in the Board who also are also close to the left hander, Ganguly has taken the first step forward towards in achieving a bigger goal.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) earlier said in a statement that it has decided to hold its board meeting, scheduled towards the end of March, over conference call only. Earlier the four-day meeting was scheduled to be held from March 26-29 at the ICC headquarters in Dubai.
