Internet Desk: The age long rivalry between Star and Sony Pictures sees Star edging past Sony as they won the IPL media rights of both TV and digital rights for a period of 5 years (2018-2022) for a staggering price of INR 16,347.50 crores.

 

24 companies had accepted the Invitation To Tender (ITT) to bid for the broadcasting rights. ESPN Digital Media, Discovery, Gulf DTH, Sky Uk Ltd, Amazon, Media India, BTG Legal Services, Taj TV, BTPLC, Twitter, Group M were all a part of the initial 24 companies who didn’t submit any bid.

 

Apart from the Indian sub continent, digital rights were also made for USA, Europe, Middle East, Africa regions and the rest of the world. An option to provide a consolidate bid with breakdown sum were provided for the bidders.

 

Way back in 2008, Sony Pictures won the broadcasting rights with a sum of 8200 crore for a duration of 10 years0. The global digital rights were handed to Novi Digital for three years in 2015 for 302.2 crore.
