Shreyas Iyer undergoes successful back surgery in London

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India cricketer Shreyas Iyer underwent a successful back surgery in the UK on Thursday. The captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is forced to miss the entire IPL 2023 as well as the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval in London in June. The 28-year-old is anticipated to miss three months of action before returning to the field. It is anticipated he will be fully fit in time for the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.

This is not the first time Iyer has suffered a back injury. He only recently achieved a full recovery from a back injury before suffering a setback during the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023. Iyer participated in the first two days of the third Test match in Ahmedabad against Australia before being side-lined.

Another Team India cricketer Jasprit Bumrah, has also recently undergone surgery for a back issue in New Zealand. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is optimistic that both Bumrah and Iyer will be fully fit ahead of the World Cup 2023 in India. In preparation for the World Cup, the right-arm fast bowler has returned to National Cricket Academy, and BCCI is laying up a recovery plan for him.
