KKR captain Shreyas Iyer decides against rushing for surgery | IPL 2023

Xtra Time Web Desk: Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer has decided against rushing himself getting operated of his back. The cricketer from Mumbai has decided to go against NCA medical staff’s advice. Iyer has been troubled with recurring back issue. He had to miss the fourth test match against Australia and the following ODI series as well. In the current scenario Iyer is doubtful for the first half of IPL 2023.

The reason why Shreyas has opted not to undergo a surgery is he can be out of action for at least 6 months which can jeopardise his chances to play the World Cup in October and November.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, Shreyas Iyer has rejected NCA’s suggestion of undergoing surgery to fix his back. Iyer has a bulging disc in his spine which also causes pain in his right calf. He has to take injections recently to relieve him of pain.

The KKR captain has already begun ayurvedic treatment for his back. As per a specialist’s advice, the KKR captain is waiting for the pain to subside. He will then resume strength and conditioning and mobility exercises.

Meanwhile, there are quite a few names in discussion to take over KKR as an interim captain. The likes of Nitish Rana, Andre Russell and Tim Southee are in contention to replace Shreyas until he is available.
