XtraTime Web Desk: India opener Shikhar Dhawan on Wednesday hit back at David Warner’s views about him recently. The Australian opener alleged that Dhawan is more comfortable taking on the spinners than the pacers. In a live chat on instagram with former India all rounder, Shikhar refuted the claims by Warner.
According to Dhawan, “See, everyone has their own views, but, it’s been 8 years since I’ve started opening for Team India, I will obviously face pacers, if I am not facing in the first over, I’ve to face at least in the second over. I played for Team India in all three formats as an opener. Of course, if we are playing on seaming wicket, it’s tough but we will fight it out.”
The Australian opener in a recent live chat with Rohit Sharma also alleged that the left hander always took singles of the last ball of an over.
“I totally disagree with him. I am not that kind of a guy,” said Dahwan
Rohit Sharma too pinched Dhawan in that live chat claiming that he was not willing to take strike. The Delhi opener took it very sportingly in accepting Rohit’s views.
Dhawan said, “I do not like to take strike in the first over. But yes, if there is a youngster like Prithvi, I will definitely ask him whether he is comfortable taking the strike. I am not the guy who would put pressure on a youngster. I always have a good chemistry with Rohit.”
The left hander asked Rohit to take the strike during the Champions Trophy in 2013. It was Dhawan’s comeback in the Indian team.
“I was making a comeback during the 2013 Champions Trophy, so I asked Rohit if he can take the strike. I always prefer settling down after watching a few deliveries from the non-striker’s end,” said Dahwan.
Dhawan has been a regular opener for India until KL Rahul took the slot in recent times.
