Internet Desk: Tennis sensation Serena Williams is making headlines with her latest cover photo of Vanity Fair magazine. She is the latest celebrity to pose nude while pregnant for a magazine cover, following in the bare footsteps of Demi Moore, Jessica Simpson and Mariah Carey.
The 35-year-old tennis star showed off her baby bump (and more) for Vanity Fair, wearing only a flesh-colored thong and belly chain. Williams is expecting her first child with fiance and Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian.
Ohanian, 34, also appears in the photo shoot, cradling their future child from behind in one picture.
Williams revealed earlier this year that she found out she was pregnant before the Australian Open in January, which she won. She told the magazine that she took six pregnancy tests before doing “a double take and my heart dropped.”
Williams still went on to win the Australian Open and now has a total of 23 Grand Slam singles titles, more than any man or women in the tennis Open era. She also holds the record for oldest woman to win a Grand Slam after conquering Wimbledon in 2015 when she was 33.
Meanwhile, former men’s tennis star John McEnroe has refused to apologize for downplaying her success in a recent interview.
“If she had to just play the circuit — the men’s circuit — that would be an entirely different story,” the 58-year-old “bad boy” commentator told NPR while promoting his new memoir, “But Seriously.” McEnroe added that he thinks Williams is the best female tennis player ever, but said she would be ranked “like 700” if she competed against men.
