Kolkata : Bengal came from behind to win 2-1 against Sikkim in the first match of  the 70th Santosh Trophy . Babun Das and Narhari Shrestha were the scorers for Bengal while Bir Bahadur Pradhan was on target for the North Eastern side.

According to Bengal coach Alok Mukherjee they could have won the match by a bigger margin. “We missed so many chances. Could have won the match by at least 10- 15 goals.”

Bir Bahadur Pradhan scored in the 80 minutes due to a defensive lapse for Sikkim but his lead was short lived as substitute Babun Das equalized in the 81st minute. Narhari  Shrestha scored the winner in the 89th minutes. Alok Mukherjee seemed not too happy with his team’s performance. “Due to lack of experience and poor finishing we have missed so many scoring opportunities. We have to be very cautious in our next match against Orissa”.

According to Bengal , Bir Bahadur was in a clear off side position at the time of goal although they won’t register a complaint . Bengal are scheduled to play Orissa on 12th February at the same venue. “They are a very tough opponent. I have told my boys that there is no room for error. I want to qualify to the knock outs only with a win”, added Aloke .
