Sanjay Manjrekar disagrees on Gavaskar’s views on selectors and Kohli

Xtra Time Web Desk: The ongoing debate on whether Virat Kohli should continue as the captain for India or should a new skipper be appointed for the national side has taken an ugly turn with former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar disagreeing with Gavaskar’s comment.
Gavaskar in his column wrote that Virat Kohli’s appointment as captain was till the World Cup 2019 and thus there should have been a formal meeting to re-appoint Kohli before the M.S.K Prasad led selection committee named Kohli as captain of the team across all the three formats for the Windies tour that starts from August 3.
However, Manjrekar had a different view point and disagreed with Gavaskar on Virat Kohli’s captaincy.
The commentator also pointed out that India’s performance under Kohli at the World Cup 2019 was not below par as the Men in Blue lost just 2 matches in their campaign, including the narrow semi-final loss to New Zealand.
“Respectfully disagree with Gavaskar Sir with his views on Indian selectors & Virat being retained as capt. No, Ind did not put in a ‘much below par WC performance’, they won 7 lost two. Last one very narrowly. And integrity a far more important quality as selector than stature,” Manjrekar tweeted.
The little master was very aggressive in his views about the MSK Prasad led selection committee.
According to Gavaskar, “Speaking of lame ducks, the Indian selection committee appears to be one. After the reappointment, he (captain) gets invited to the meeting for his views on selecting the players for the team. By bypassing the procedure, the message that goes out is that while the players like Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik get dropped after below expectation performance, the captain continues despite much below par expectations where the team did not even reach the finals,”
