Ronaldinho , a member of the 2002 World Cup winning squad is in talks to become the Brand Ambassador of Sait Nagjee tournament in Kozhikode , Kerala .
According to the organizers the Brazilian have given his consent to be present for the tournament .
The organizers want to revive the Nagjee , once regarded as a popular tournament . They are leaving no stone unturned to make this tournament a grand success . Already top European and Latin American teams have confirmed their participation . Teams like Watford FC, Hertha BSC ,TSV 1860 Munich, Levante UD. Clube Atletico Paranaense (Brazil), Rapid Bucharest (Romania) and Argentina’s national Under-23 team are expected to participate in the tournament. The eight-team competition will also feature an I-league team.
Considered one of the oldest football tournament in the country ( started in 1952 ) , it had gone defunct after the last edition that was hosted in 1995. According to the organizers “ We were quite eager to see the revival of this tournament so that the football-loving fans in Kozhikode can get to see some entertaining football in the city . But there is a slight conflict with the dates as the tournament clash with the school games that is slated to take place during Februray . So we are in discussion to have the Brazilian legend for inauguration .”
