Xtra Time Web Desk : Virat Kohli on Saturday dropped a bombshell he announced his decision to step down as the Test captain of the Indian cricket team after the series defeat against Proteas. Kohli, the most successful Indian Test captain, took to Twitter to make the mega announcement. Since then heavyweights of the cricket fraternity has been putting forward their opinions on the above matter.

And now, former Team India Opener Gautam Gambhir has put forward his opinion on the above issue, also stating who should be Team India's next skipper post Kohli era.

In a column for the Times Of India, the former Kolkata Knight Riders Captain wrote, "In my book Rohit Sharma should lead India across all formats with Rahul as his deputy. One captain across formats will ensure consistency in style and approach of the Indian team especially considering that we have another T20 World Cup later this year."

Between the last Test and ODI series, the news space has been hogged by Virat resigning from Test captaincy. I think it is an individual's call and that is how it should be treated. I think Virat left the Indian Test team is good health but I can't say the same about white-ball cricket. Our bowling resources in Test matches are a neighbour's envy and owner's pride. They have showed time and again that they are the engine room for a team's performance. In limited overs cricket, I'd have liked to see a more settled middle-order, which Virat could not create," added the 40 year old southpaw from Delhi.

Kohli replaced MS Dhoni as the full-time captain in the 2014/15 season amidst the away series against Australia after Dhoni decided to quit the Captaincy and won a record 40 out of 68 Tests as the captain of Team India.
