Rio 2016: Saina Nehwal may face top seed Carolina Marin in the semi-finals

Internet Desk: Olympic bronze medalist Saina Nehwal may face top seed of the Olympic Carolina Marin in the semi-final. The draw declared yesterday showed the road to Olympic medals, showed that both of them are in a same half to face each other ahead of the final.

According to the draw table Saina is in group-G along with Marina Ulitina of Ukrain and Lohaynny Vicente of Brazil. Other women’s singles player P V Sindhu is in group-M along with Michelle Li of Canada and Laura Sarosi of Hungary. She may face the Olypmic champion Li Xuerui of China prior to that match. Passing an easy preliminary stage Saina may face the previous champion in the quarterfinal.

In the women’s singles, top seed Carolina Marin of Spain has been drawn in the same half as Li Xuerui of China and Saina Nehwal of India, two players she has defeated in world championships finals.

In the men’s singles Indian lone shuttler Srikanth Kidambi is along with Henri Hurskainen of Sweden and Lino Munez of Mexico. Malaysian two-time silver medallist Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan of China, have been placed in the same half of the draw and can only meet in a potential semi-final showdown. Also in this half of the draw is Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen, Hu Yun of Hong King China, India’s Kidambi Srikanth and Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen.

Unfortunately the men’s double’s shuttlers Manu Attri and Sumeeth B Reddy are placed in the group-D, which is named as the Group of Death. In this froup ther will be second seeds Mohammed Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan along with China’s Chai Biao/Hong Wei.

Indian women’s doubles shuttlers Jwala Gutta and A Ponnappa are in the group-A. They are comparatively in a safe group to reach the semi-final.
