Rio 2016: Both Indian women’s and men’s doubles shuttlers lost their first matches

Internet Desk: Indian women’s’ doubles pair of badminton Aswini Ponnappa and Jwala Gutta lost their first match of this Olympics. The men’s pair of Manu Attri and b Sumeeth Reddy also lost their first match later this day.

Jwala Gutta and Aswini Ponnappa gifted easy win to the world no.1 doubles pair of women’s’ badminton. The Japanese pair of Misaki Matsumoto and Ayaka Takahashi completed the match winning two sets. The same happened to the men’s pair also. They also lost by two sets.

The Indian pair of Gutta and Ponnappa were looking feeble all over the match. However, in the first set they gave a little fight. At the beginning they were leading the match by 4-1 raising the expectations of Indian fans.

But in the second set the Japanese dumped them through their tactics. It was seemed that the Indian pair was unable to predict the strategy of the Japanese shuttlers. They forced Indian shuttlers to do several unforced errors.

The match was lost by the Indian shuttlers by 21-15 21-10. The match sustained only for 36minutes.

In the men’s doubles match Manu and Sumeeth lost to world no.2 pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan. The Indonesian pair however, had a good fight from the unseeded Indian pair.

In the first set Indian pairs was looking like at the verge of winning. However, they lost their own service and los the first set by three points. In the second set they fought to lose the match within 32minutes. Finally they lost the match by 21-18 21-13.

The Indian women shuttlers have two more matches to survive for the round of 16. They will play their next against the Netherland pair of Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek Tomorrow. Men’s team will also have two more matches. They will play their next match against Biao Chai and Wei Hong of China tomorrow.
