Redemption in hockey, as India sends Pakistan packing with a thumping victory

Internet Desk: Although India’s hopes in the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy have shattered in the final today, but India inflicted a thrashing defeat on their arch rivals Pakistan when they defeated them 7-1 in the Hockey World League Semi Final at London to top the table in Pool B. 35 years back Pakistan beat India by the same margin so one can say it was a redemption for India in hockey after three and a half decades. India aggressively started the match double strikes from Talwinder Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Akashdeep Singh sealed the match for India.

The goal tally for India opened when skipper Harmanpreer Singh socred from a penalty corner in the first quarter of the game. Harmanpreet drag flicker reached the back of the net when Paradeep Mor won his team the second penalty corner. India’s lead was doubled in the second quarter when Talwinder gently pulled the ball into the nets at the 21st minute mark.

Talwinder scored his brace from a field goal just three minutes later to take India’s score 3-0. Pakistan made repeated attacks but failed to score any while India made most of their opportunities which they created. India went 4-0 in the third quarter as Harmanpreet scored from a penalty corner. Vikas Dahiya stood firm like a wall and saved two back to back penalty corners of Pakistan.

A sublime pass from Sardar Singh saw Akashdeep Singh taking India’s score to 5-0. In the last quarter of the game he too scored his brace before a lone strike from Paradeep Mor saw India thumping Pakistan 6-0.

57th minute saw Muhammad Umar Bhutta scoring a consolation goal for his side and then 2 minutes later Akasdeep Singh scored his barce when he put the ball at the back of the net.

India is scheduled to play their next match on Tuesday against the Netherlands.
