Ranji Trophy : Manoj Tiwary To Lead Bengal If Declared Fit

Kolkata : The Bengal selectors have kept Manoj Tiwari in the 16 member squad that will play against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy quarter finals . The selectors are hopeful that Manoj will be fit before the match . The match will be played at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai from February 3 to February 7.

Tiwari , who sustained  a calf-muscle strain while batting against Hyderabad  in Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament is still to recover fully . The southpaw is showing positive signs on his road to recovery . He underwent  some rigorous net practice today and is hopeful to get fit for the quarter final match .  “I still have 3 more days for training in the nets. Dr. Dean Shaw has reviewed my MRI report. According to him my injury has improved significantly.” Tiwari said. “However, I will finalize the decision to play in the  Ranji quarters only on the day before the match.” added the right-handed batsman.

“All of us earnestly want Bengal to emerge victorious. Manoj is an able captain and possess a strong mindset towards his game. I am sure he will be able to bring the Ranji trophy home.” said Debang Gandhi, chairman of the selection committee .

Bengal have made two new inclusions in the squad . Batsman  Prasenjit Das of  East Bengal who scored seven centuries in local club tournament have been included along with right arm medium fast bowler Ishan Porel .
