Xtra Time Web Desk: Manchester United put up an inspiring show as they thrashed Newcastle United 4-1 in Premier League at St James Park on Saturday night. Goals from Harry Maguire (23’), Bruno Fernandes(86’), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (90’) and Marcus Rashford (90+6’) sealed United’s victory.

The visitors trailed in the second minute as Luke Shaw conceded an own goal but Harry Maguire’s header leveled the scores. The match looked destined for a 1-1 draw until a dramatic outburst from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side saw them return with flying colours. Bruno Fernandes gave United the lead in the 86th minute as he rifled into the top corner. Aaron Wan-Bissaka thumped in his first senior goal in the 90th minute while Marcus Rashford scored the fourth goal in the stoppage-time to seal a well deserved three points on Tyneside. The win saw Manchester United climb to 14th in the Premier League on six points.

A controversy involving a VAR marred the Merseyside derby between reigning champions Liverpool and Everton at Goodison Park. Sadio Mane (3’) gave an early lead to Liverpool only to see the scores leveled by a Michael Keane header in the 19th minute. The Reds once again took the lead through Mo Salah in the 72nd minute. Dominic Calvert Lewin headed home a Lucas Digne cross in the 81st minute. Jordan Henderson put Liverpool ahead in the 93rd minute from a Sadio Mane cross only to see the goal being disallowed by a lengthy VAR check.

In another Premier League fixture Manchester City got back to winning ways against Arsenal at Etihad Stadium. Raheem Sterling scored the only goal in the first-half.

Chelsea settled for a 3-3 score line at Stamford Bridge against Southampton. Timo Werner (15’,28’) Kai Havertz (59’) were on target for the Blues while Danny Ings (43’)  Che Adams (57’) and Jannick Vestergaard (90+2’) scored for Southampton.
