Premier League: Champions Liverpool thrashed 4-0 by Manchester City at Etihad

XtraTime Web Desk: Premier League champions Liverpool suffered a shock 0-4 defeat at the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad stadium on Thursday night. It was only the second straight loss for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the season since losing against Watford in February. The win took Manchester City to 66 points, twenty points clear of leaders Liverpool who is on 86 points.

The home side gave a guard of honour to the club from Anfield for winning the Premier League before the kick off but left no respite as the match progressed. K De Bruyne (25′ penalty), R Sterling (35′), P Foden (45′) scored for City while A Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a own goal to hand Pep Guardiola’s side a satisfying result.

Kevin De Bruyne put City ahead from the spot kick after Raheem Sterling was brought down inside the box by Joe Gomez. Sterling put himself on the scoresheet with a strike from 10 yards in the 35th minute. Phil Foden extended the lead for the home side in the 45th minute following a one-two with De Bruyne.

The visitors suffered further humiliation as Akex Oxlade Chamberlain scored an own goal in the 66th minute to give City a 4-0 win.
