Premier League 2018/19: Three FIFA U17 superstars are ready to grab the stage

XtraTime Web Desk: The U17 World Cup has seen a few amazing stars to dominate in India in 2017. Doing justice to their abundance of success, three of them have already earned  their professional senior team call ups in three respective Premier League giants. Have a look:

Phil Foden (Manchester City)

The most promising youngster in the EPL this season has to be the youngest ever player to receive a Premier League winner’s medal – Manchester City’s Phil Foden. The Stockport born midfielder has grown rapidly since his exploits at the U17 FIFA World Cup last year – where he won the Golden Ball and steered England to the coveted title.

Having emerged from City’s youth academy, the 18-year-old showed flashes of brilliance last season and even featured in the Champions League. After impressive showings in the pre-season tour, he played a pivotal role in the Citizens’ 2-0 drubbing of Chelsea in the Community Shield last week. He made his mark when he played a delightful pass to Sergio Aguero for the Argentine to score his 200th club goal. Foden’s skillful display and blistering pace have left fans and pundits yearning for more.

With Foden emerging as a fan favourite and Pep Guardiola stating that the youngster is ready for first team action, it’s safe to say that we’ll be seeing a lot more of the ‘Stockport Iniesta.’

Callum Hudson-Odoi (Chelsea)

Callum Hudson-Odoi is one of Chelsea’s brightest prospects of the season. He featured in all of the Blues’ preseason games and has emerged as one of Maurizio Sarri’s favourites. His best show came against Arsenal, where he had Hector Bellerin running for cover. Such was his searing pace and wily footwork that he made the experienced Bellerin look plain silly.

And Sarri has insisted that the 17-year-old will remain at Stamford Bridge for the entire season. Asked about Hudson-Odoi’s future after the friendly against Arsenal, the Italian said “he will stay with us for all the season.”

Having started in the Community Shield game against Manchester City – where he showed moments of brilliance – he will look to gain more game time and improve his record from last season, where he made four substitute appearances for the first team.

He is bound to face stiff competition from experienced campaigners such as N’Golo Kante, Eden Hazard, and Willian, but he sure has shown the ability to make the starting XI.

Rhian Brewster (Liverpool)

Another U17 World Cup winner to look out for is Rhian Brewster, who scored a remarkable eight goals to power England to the title. His stirring run at the WC put Brewster in the spotlight and he has since represented The Reds in the UEFA Youth Cup but hasn’t made his Premier League debut yet.

The 18-year-old was caught in an intense transfer speculation at the end of last season, with Liverpool going as far as cancelling a friendly with Borussia Monchengladbach after reports suggested that the German side had tapped him up.

With Jurgen Klopp always eager to infuse fresh talent into the side, it won’t be long before we see the youngster share the pitch with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane.
