Mumbai : Pranav Dhanwade , the teenage cricket sensation who created a world record with an unbeaten knock of 1009 runs in an innings , has been offered a place in national carrier Air India’s sporting team. Air India’s offer to the 15-year-old cricketer is in line with the airline’s policy of encouraging budding talent in various fields, an official said. ”We already communicated our decision to Pranav’s family yesterday. We have asked him to join Air India team on a scholarship basis,” an Air India source said. Son of an auto-rickshaw driver, the Mumbai teenager became the first batsman ever to notch up a four-figure score in any form of cricket.
Pranav was also presented an autogrphed bat by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday for his record shattering innings of 1009 runs.
Sachin was one of the first few cricketers to congratulate the 15-year-old sensation , “Sachin Tendulkar is my idol.” Dhanwade said. “But I don’t want to be another Tendulkar . I just want to keep playing in my own aggressive style.” replied Dhanawade over the phone from his residence in Mumbai .
When asked whether this was the biggest gift of his life he said, “Yes absolutely. This is more than just another dream coming true. Sachin is a legend. I will cherish this sweet gesture by him for the rest of my life.”
Pranav’s coach, Mobin Saikh seemed concerned about the fact that too much media hype might affect the youngsters focus , “ I want him to stay grounded as always . I want him not to get carried away and keep working even harder for achieving bigger goals .”
Being an wicketkeeper himself , Dhanwade’s icon is none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni.” Dhoni bhai is my favorite captain but I also admire Saurav Ganguly’s captaincy . ” replied a shy looking Dhanawade .
