Pakistan Cricket Board threaten to pull out of Asia Cup and World Cup if second hybrid model is not accepted by ACC

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has threatened to pull out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup this year if Asian Cricket Council (ACC) do not accept its second hybrid model proposal. PCB has offered to host 4 league games of the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan while the remaining nine matches can be played at neutral venues. The ball is in the Asian Cricket Council’s court. ACC President Jay Shah is likely to convene a meeting with the member boards in the next few days to find a solution.

According to a report in RevSportz, PCB claims they already have the support of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket boards. Pakistan Cricket Board has also threatened to withdraw from the upcoming test series against Sri Lanka if SLC opposes the second hybrid model for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.

If the Asian Cricket Council President is not agreeable to PCB’s proposal, then Pakistan in all likelihood will withdraw from participating in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and 50 overs World Cup in India starting from October 5.

According to a report, PCB is confident of getting the support of Pakistan government on the issue. There is pressure from the broadcasters as well, because an Indo-Pak clash generates almost 80 percent revenue. Without Pakistan’s participation, the tournament will also lose its shine.

As of now, all eyes will be on the Asian Cricket Council meeting. If ACC members are agreeable with PCB’s second hybrid model proposal, then Pakistan will participate in the Asia Cup 2023 as well as travel to India for the ICC World Cup. The ball is in the court of ACC under President Jay Shah.
