The 31-year-old Indian produced a best throw of 20.64 metres to claim his third consecutive Asian Games medal. However, he could not match his previous Games record of 20.75 metres, set at the 2018 Jakarta edition.
Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebi won the gold medal with a Games-record throw of 20.81 metres, breaking Toor’s six-year-old record. Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Tolu secured the bronze with a throw of 20.48 metres.
Although Toor’s bid for three successive Asian Games gold medals fell short, his achievement of winning medals at three consecutive editions underlines his remarkable consistency at the continental level.
India added another athletics medal in the women’s 400 metres, with Prachi Chaudhary securing bronze. Chaudhary clocked 53.21 seconds to finish third.
Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser claimed the gold medal with a time of 49.20 seconds, while Iran’s Zahra Jafari Mianoujan won silver after finishing in 52.38 seconds.
The other Indian in the event, Kiran Pahal, finished fifth in the final.
With Toor’s silver and Chaudhary’s bronze, Indian athletics added two more medals to the country’s Asian Games tally.
