It was Mukund who opened the nets session today at the SSC along with Dhawan as Coach Ravi Shastri watched the proceedings. The Indian team had a gruelling training session under the watchful eyes of Ravi Shastri following their two days break. There was a lot of intensity, be it in fielding and catching drills or sharpening skills with bat and ball.   With the bowling line-up and middle order batting looking settled the team management is in two minds whether to stick with the Dhawan-Mukund combo or get Rahul in place of Mukund. Both the openers got a decent knock at the nets with the coach looking at the proceedings from behind the nets. Dhawan along with Mukund started the proceedings with Rahul coming in next along with Pujara. They were facing the likes of Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma.   Dhawan is almost certain to keep his place after his blazing knock of 190 runs in the first innings at Galle while Mukund came good with the bat during the second innings scoring 81 runs. The Tamil Nadu opener also affected a spectacular catch at short leg.   For Rahul, it’s about proving his fitness. If he lives up to the rigours of the training session, he should be an automatic choice, which means a straight selection shootout between the left-handed pair of Abhinav and Dhawan.   According to Coach Shastri,  “He (Rahul) is good. We are watching him closely. He went through some tough times, he was in hospital for 2-3 days, and obviously it has taken a lot out of him. So, we have to be very careful how we treat him; we are watching him closely and he is getting better by the day.”   Other notable aspects of the training session today were that the players were given extensive fielding drills by fielding coach Sridhar. The cricketers were seen enjoying the fielding drills. Captain Virat Kohli was seen rolling his arms at Shikhar Dhawan and Abhinav Mukund. The Indian captain looked in a jovial mood, constantly talking with his teammates.   India leads the three match series 1-0 after the comprehensive 304 runs win at Galle.
