Kolkata: The National Shooting Championship 2016 in Pune starting on the 11th December is all set to witness a rare feat as Indian Olympian shooter Joydeep Karmakar and his supremely talented son Adrian will be seen in action together for the competition. Adrian, the “wonder kid” of Bengal shooting has now been the youngest from Bengal to have qualified for the national championships at the age of eleven.

Joydeep has been rated as one of the best ever shooters in the country and he finished fourth in the London Olympics, missing a medal narrowly. This would be a comeback for him as well as the ace shooter is eyeing a dream of representing the country in the next Olympics before skipping the stint in Rio. In the National Championship, Joydeep will be competing in the 50m Prone event against the likes of Gagan Narang and 2014 Asian Games Bronze medalist Chain Singh.

The astonishing fact of this father-son combination is that Joydeep’s son Adrian too will be competing against the likes of Gagan Narang in the senior level in 10m Air Rifle event at the age of eleven. He will be competing in the Youth and Junior level as well in Pune.

Joydeep was feeling proud of his son as he told xtraTime.in, “Not just as a father but as a teacher of JKSA, I am really feeling very happy as well as optimistic about Adrian. He has a special talent of doing better in the match situations compare to his practice sessions, which is quite unusual. I am sure that he will do well in the nationals.” He added, “His match temperament and concentration are quite amazing. I hope he will continue to improve.”

Joydeep and his son Adrian will depart for Pune on the 8th December to write a new history in Indian shooting.
