NorthEast United sealed the semifinal spot after beating Kerala Blasters 2-0

XtraTime Web Desk – The semifinal spot is confirmed for NorthEast United. They joined ATK Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC and now either Hyderabad FC or FC Goa can join the race for the finale.

Playing for the pride, Kerala had a slow start to the game. NorthEast was heavy on them and could’ve picked an early goal but Fox failed to keep his volley on target as the first genuine chance of the match was wasted by the Highlanders.

Kerala as well could have scored and it was once again Kone who got the opportunity but his failed to keep his header on target and Kerala missed a sitter as their interim coach Ishfaq Ahmed looked disappointed in the sidelines.

VP Suhair broke the deadlock in the 34th minute of the match as his calm and cool finish put NorthEast ahead in this vital game. Just before half-time, NorthEast doubled their lead as Lalengmawia scored for them and solidified their lead.

The Highlanders looked strong in the second half as well. Kerala offered very little. Brown could’ve made it 3-0 but his shot hit the post in the 59th minute denying a beautiful goal.

Towards the end of the match, NorthEast was denied again as Brown’s shot hit the side net. The Highlanders won’t mind much as they won the match and booked their place in the semifinals of ISL. They finished the season with 35 points from 20 games, while Kerala Blasters finished with 16 points in the 10th place.
