Neeraj Chopra, Bajrang Punia & Indian contingent arrive at New Delhi; wild celebrations at airport

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Indian contingent at the Tokyo Olympics led by gold medallist Neeraj Chopra arrived at the Indira Gandhi International airport on Monday. Hundreds of fans, family members, well wishers gathered at the airport to receive the Indian athletes. Bharat Mata Ki chants were heard as Neeraj Chopra, Bajrang Punia, Lovlina Borgohain, Indian hockey teams came outside the airport one by one. The athletes were welcomed by a Sports Authority of India (SAI) delegation headed by its Director General Sandeep Pradhan, who was accompanied by Athletics Federation of India head Adille Sumariwala. The players were garlanded inside the airport by the officials . They will be heading to Hotel Ashoka directly for a grand reception on Monday evening.

Several fans were with tri colour, posters of their favourite stars, and banners. There were also bands to welcome the Indian athletes. The family members and friends of Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Bajrang Punia were at the Indira Gandhi airport to welcome him. They travelled all the way from his village. Several face masks with Bajrang’s picture was also noticed at the airport.

Bajrang Punia and Ravi Dahiya were literally carried on the shoulders of supporters outside the airport. They were next boarded on an open jeep parked outside the airport. A large procession followed  him to Hotel Ashoka.
