Debasis Sen, Colombo: Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim on Monday said that he did not planned anything about the Nagin Dance. The former Bangladesh captain broke into an unusual celebration after blasting a 35-ball 72 to help Bangladesh cricket team pull off a memorable win against Sri Lanka in Nidahas Trophy T20. Mushfiqur oozed confidence ahead of his teams clash against India on Wednesday at the R Premadasa Stadium. Here are the excerpts from his press conference in Colombo:

Hopeful of making it to the final:

If you look at the T20 format, on any given day anyone can upset any big team. Although India and Sri Lanka are strong teams on paper, but if you play good cricket on that particular day we can cause another upset. We needed a win like this which will help us get back the self-belief. And talking about the final, yes we are very much hopeful of reaching the final. We still have two more matches coming up. We are now focussing on win our next match against India and book a place in the final.

Nagin Dance going viral:

It was just a normal celebration. May be everyone liked the dance but most important thing for me was the team won the match. It was not pre-planned but a sudden burst of emotion.

BCB President’s comment:

I hope he will now change his views about me. I don’t know how he was watching the match. We were not doing well in the last two months, but we never shifted our focus. May be he (BCB President) does watch us during the training sessions.

Crucial match coming up against India:

Yes, it’s all about confidence but still we need to start from ball 1 against a strong team like India. Positive for us is we have two or three players who are in great touch at the moment. Key will be to play as a team again in the match against India. We need to tighten up a few areas in bowling and fielding department. Insallah, if we can do that we will get the desired result.

Top order firing against Sri Lanka:

In this format your top 3-4 batsmen need to score the bulk of the runs. Probably you would like one of them to score at least 60-70 runs. Then you will end up putting good total on board more often than not.

Playing Bangla brand of cricket:

I totally agree with what Tamim commented and that is to have our own brand of cricket rather than imitating others. We need to play to our strengths and weakness. Even though we are not consistent in this format but still we are working hard on our games. We do not have a pinch hitter who can score a quickfire 30-40 runs in 10 balls. We do have some smart cricketers in our side.
