Mumbai City FC creates history; defeats former FIFA Club World Cup finalists Al Ain by 2-1 in an away friendly
Xtra Time Web Desk : Mumbai City FC on Saturday created history as they defeated a top ranked Asian giant in UAE's Al Ain FC in a friendly that was hosted by the former FIFA Club World Cup finalists.
The high voltage clash, although a friendly was an acid test for the Islanders, which they passed in with flying colours. It was an exciting match all through out, which saw both sides play some top notch football.
But despite being the massive underdogs, it was Mumbai who first scored a goal through an Ahmed Jahouh penalty in the 33rd minute of the match to take an invaluable lead.
In the second half though, in spite of constant attacks by the home side, the Islanders doubled their lead through Apuia before Jonas scored a late consolation goal for Al Ain to make the scoreline 2-1.
The humongous victory by Mumbai City FC is the first win of an Indian club over Al Ain FC, who played the FIFA Club World Cup finals in 2018 after becoming the only club from UAE to win the AFC Champions League.
